**Delhi’s Central Government Offices to Shut on September 11 Ahead of BRICS Summit**

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has issued a circular confirming that all central government offices in Delhi will remain closed on **Monday, September 11, 2024**. The shutdown is being implemented to facilitate heightened security arrangements for the **BRICS summit**, which is scheduled to take place in the capital from September 9‑11. Officials indicated that the closure will enable unrestricted deployment of security personnel and equipment across key venues, including the Delhi International Convention Centre, where the heads of state and senior ministers will convene.

In the run‑up to the summit, the Delhi Police has conducted a comprehensive review of the security cover required for the event. A multi‑agency task force, comprising the Central Reserve Police Force, National Security Guard and local law‑enforcement units, has been mobilised to secure the perimeter of summit venues, diplomatic hotels and adjoining streets. The Delhi Traffic Police has also briefed members of the Bar Association and other stakeholder groups on revised traffic‑management plans, which include temporary lane closures, rerouting of public transport, and the deployment of over 2,000 traffic personnel to ensure smooth vehicular flow. Parallel to security measures, civic agencies are upgrading infrastructure – cleaning roads, installing temporary toilet facilities, setting up decorative flower fountains, and deploying 154 large‑screen displays to disseminate real‑time information to visitors and residents.

The office shutdown is expected to affect roughly 1.2 million central employees in the city, many of whom will work remotely or take leave on the day. Commuters have been urged to plan alternative routes and to use the metro system, which will operate on a revised schedule. Union Minister **M. Venkaiah Naidu** reiterated that the temporary inconvenience is “a necessary step to ensure the safety of all participants and to showcase India’s capability to host a world‑class summit.” The government has assured that essential services, including health‑care facilities and emergency response units, will remain fully operational throughout the three‑day event.
